Beyond Compliance — Why HPDs and EPDs Are Critical for Green Building Certifications

Sustainability is evolving from a compliance requirement into a competitive advantage. Customers, regulators, and investors now demand transparency—and companies that deliver it are earning trust, contracts, and long-term partnerships.

For those who design and operate networks that connect the world, two tools stand out: Health Product Declarations (HPDs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).

What They Are

  • HPDs disclose the chemical inventory of a product and its potential health impacts.
  • EPDs provide third-party verified data on a product’s lifecycle environmental footprint.

Together, HPDs and EPDs offer measurable proof of sustainability performance—critical for data centers, smart buildings, and enterprise networks.

Why They Matter for Connectivity Solutions

Copper and fiber systems may not be visible to end-users, but they are foundational to digital infrastructure and PoE technologies. Their environmental impact—spanning energy, materials, and emissions—is significant.

HPDs and EPDs help our customers:

  • Achieve certifications like LEED, WELL, LBC and BREEAM that enable reduced operating costs, higher rental income and higher real estate value.
  • Meet global compliance standards by providing transparent documentation that supports responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices. Reduce risk by eliminating hazardous materials from supply chains.

For engineers, architects, and specifiers, these declarations simplify procurement and ensure connectivity solutions align with broader sustainability strategies.

Siemon’s Leadership in Product Transparency

Siemon has invested in tools like 3E Exchange, HPD Collaborative, and One Click LCA to accelerate declaration development across our product portfolio.

  • All Siemon LCAs are certified to ISO 14040/44 and third-party verified by EPD Hub.
  • All Siemon EPDs are certified to ISO 14025 and published by EPD Hub for global access.
  • HPDs are published in the HPD Collaborative Repository under the HPD Open Standard (v2.3).

We recently published our first EPD for the Z-MAX Shielded Outlet—a milestone in transparency for network infrastructure. By 2029, our target is 80% coverage across both HPDs and EPDs.

Customer Value: Beyond Compliance

For data centers, smart buildings, and global enterprises, HPDs and EPDs provide:

  • Trust – Verified data builds customer confidence.
  • Efficiency – Simplified compliance reduces administrative overhead.
  • Differentiation – Sustainability credentials strengthen competitive bids.
  • Future-readiness – Advanced screening and life-cycle assessments position customers for compliance in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

The Strategic Advantage

In network infrastructure, declarations are no longer optional. They are essential tools for building greener, safer, and smarter connected spaces. Customers expect the same transparency in connectivity solutions that they demand in construction materials.

By partnering with Siemon, you gain more than compliant products—you gain a partner committed to customer-driven innovation, proven performance, and sustainable leadership. That’s not just our promise. That’s the Siemon standard.

Siemon Environmental and Health Product Declarations are available in our eCatalog, searchable by part number with compliance declarations available on-demand. View Siemon’s full listing of HPDs and EPDs.
