POSITION PURPOSE:
The Optical Engineer will play a key role in driving innovation, leading research and development, enhancing product development, representing Siemon at key industry standard bodies, and collaborating cross-functionally to expand our fiber optic expertise and technical fiber optic business objectives to maintain the company’s competitive edge as a leader in the fiber optics connectivity market. This role requires a deep understanding of fiber optic systems and market dynamics, ensuring products and systems exceed customer requirements enabling profitable growth in the markets served by these systems and products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years in fiber optic research and development
- Experience with optical engineering and applications, with a strong grasp of fiber optic testing, performance benchmarking, equipment and methodologies, electrical and mechanical engineering and active optical signal integrity principles
- Knowledge of fiber optic manufacturing processes and product design for connectors and cables and optical sub-assemblies
- Strong Understanding of Physics and Optics in the context of optical fiber networking, both structured cabling and high-speed interconnects used in data center and enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of optical transceiver technologies, co-packaged optics & silicon photonics
- Thorough understanding of related industry standards, test methods, environmental testing and quality requirements
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively
- Strong leadership skills with excellent decision-making abilities
