ULTRAsplice
The patented ULTRAsplice is a high performance, cost effective, mechanical fiber optic splice that is reusable and easy to install for emergency or permanent installations. The splice features a patented glass capillary alignment tube, pre-loaded with index matching gel, to allow inspection of fiber location during installation. Additionally, the collet locking nuts allow users to tune and secure the fiber for optimum alignment and retention.
Overview of the ULTRAsplice Installation Procedure
Prepare and cleave fiber ends. The cleave length should be 7 to 9 mm.
Align and butt cleaved end faces of optical fibers in visible central glass guide. Molded-in springs hold buffers during installation and/or tuning, eliminating the need for extra tooling or fixturing.
To permanently secure fiber(s), twist grey locking nut (similar to wire nut) to lock the Internal Collet onto the buffer. This action is similar to a Pin Vise or Drill Chuck, firmly locking the buffer when the nut is tightened. It provides a higher retention than the fiber or buffer tensile strength.
