Siemon Releases MapIT™ - Network Infrastructure Management and Documentation Solution

Intelligent Infrastructure Cabling System and Software Solution Facilitates Sarbanes-Oxley IT Compliance and Secure Network Management

Watertown, CT — Siemon is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with iTRACS Corporation and the release of Siemon's MapIT - a suite of advanced intelligent network infrastructure management solutions designed to offer both security and total network documentation.

"The strict corporate guidelines, and resulting IT accountability generated by Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 creates the need for a whole new level of network security and documentation," says Frank Velleca, Siemon's Market Manager for Strategic Projects. "In the course of compliance, companies need a way to automatically monitor and identify threats as well as provide auditable event logs." The MapIT system was designed specifically to meet this need.

The system, based on the combination of iTRACS software and Siemon MapIT connecting hardware, monitors and records connectivity of mission-critical connections in data centers and wiring closets in real time, 24/7; detects unauthorized moves, adds and changes; detects unauthorized devices and software; alerts the system administrator via pager, email, alarms, and can supplement the logs with photos identifying any person making such a change.

Aside from the robust threat-prevention abilities of the MapIT system, its unique ability to offer complete and flexible control of IT infrastructure records, network documentation and auditable event logs is a clear benefit to organizations struggling with Sarbanes Section 404 documentation requirements. By monitoring physical connections through Siemon connectivity, MapIT maintains the record of relationships and complex data links of any kind, throughout the network. The records can be built from spreadsheet files, maps, CAD files, photos, scans, bitmaps and the built in auto-discovery module. The records are used to tie the data description of the network, and of any device on the network, to maps, floor plans and location overlays. An update to one field in the record updates the relationship to all other linked data in the record. The software maintains and displays extremely complex Enterprise networks in a highly visual and organized manner, making a once daunting task manageable. The MapIT software also works alongside current network monitoring and management software packages which stop short of the physical layer.

While its ability to facilitate Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is a powerful benefit, MapIT provides an excellent tool against network downtime, a potential source of tremendous revenue loss. "Over 70% of network outages can be related to physical layer issues, and 80% of repair time is spent diagnosing the problem," says Rick McNees, iTRACS Corporation VP of Marketing. "The same MapIT features that increase network security and documentation serve to identify potential downtime causes before they happen. And in the event of trouble, MapIT can reduce troubleshooting time, allowing corrective measures far sooner. With large enterprises measuring downtime costs in millions of dollars per hour, the benefit is staggering"

Siemon's MapIT system is designed for use with standards-based copper and fiber optic structured cabling solutions, allowing easy integration into existing networks. At the heart of the system are Siemon patchcords, fiber jumpers and patch panels featuring iTRACS-enabled sensor technology. They feature robust gold-plated sensor contacts, which track physical layer connections and transmit that data to the iTRACS software. Beyond the MapIT-equipped data center or telecom room, standard cabling is used. Available in Siemon's industry-leading 10G ip™ System as well as Category 6 and XGLO® fiber optic configurations, MapIT is backed by a 20-year warranty when installed by a Siemon/iTRACS Certified Installer×.
