The Siemon Company Presents at IEEE 2003 EMC Symposium

WATERTOWN, CT — Paulo Marin, PhD. of The Siemon Company recently presented at the IEEE 2003 Electromagnetic Compatibility Symposium held in Boston, MA. An important event in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), over 170 papers were presented in the technical sessions and workshops focusing on electromagnetic interference in cables, crosstalk, the effects of lightning, measurement procedures, and more. The speakers and researchers came from all over the world, including USA, Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, and Japan, among others.

The Siemon Company's presentation focused on the interference between data and voice channels (or between digital and analog signals) in UTP structured cabling systems. Siemon was the only company from the structured cabling systems industry presenting in the symposium -- a reflection of Siemon's commitment to technology and research & development in the industry. "We keep an eye on the future as always," said Dr. Marin, "and EMI/EMC is an important issue we must address in the development and application of our high-performance cabling solutions."

From the theoretical and academic points of view, the study results shown and discussed in the Siemon presentation provided important information for others in the field. One of the presentation's conclusions was that the operation of analog telephony, low voltage circuits and devices used in building automation systems, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and even Gigabit Ethernet can be reliably implemented in conjunction with structured cabling systems under the conditions considered in the study.
