Siemon Sponsors Successful Motorcycle Rally for Charity

Benefit raises thousands of dollars for local Youth Center

WATERTOWN, CT — The Sunday morning sun rose slowly over the 19th century refurbished knitting mill, now the world headquarters of The Siemon Company, and the glare of the rays reflected brightly off the polished chrome and molded metal of the over 125 motorcycles lined up in the company parking lot. Today, in a burst of adrenaline and raw mechanical power, this massive assembly would ride over 62 miles to raise money for the Water-Oak Youth Center.

This was the scene Sunday, July 6th, 2003 as over 140 participant and as many as 125 motorcycles gathered for a "Poker Run" motorcycle rally for charity. Sponsored by the Siemon Company, a world leader in the field of network cabling systems, this event is testament to the company's commitment to the children and the greater community of Watertown, of which they have been a part for over 50 years.

"We are very happy to be out here today on this beautiful day, to ride these extraordinary machines for such a worthy cause," said Carl Siemon, President of the company and the "Leader of the Pack" for the charity ride. "The Siemon Company has always believed in giving back to the community. I'm happy to announce that in addition to the thousands of dollars we raised in registration and donations for this event, Siemon will be matching that amount 100%."

"This ride was also a celebration of Siemon's 100th anniversary," said Carrie Mahoney, Siemon's Manager of the event. "2003 marks 100 years in business for Siemon and we are proud to be able to give back a little bit to the community that has been such a large part of our existence."

In honor of the company's 100th anniversary, the town of Watertown also re-named the road that runs throughout the Siemon Company campus from Princeton Road to Siemon Company Drive. After cutting the ribbon on the new road, the massive assembly of Harley Davidsons, Hondas, BMWs, Ducatis and at least one motorcycle with a sidecar, roared down the street into the rolling hills of Litchfield county. Collecting a card at each of four stops along the way and a final card upon returning, prizes were given for the top poker hands.
