Venturing into the Future
Venture Wales, a leading business support organisation based in Abercynon, South Wales has chosen the 10G 6A shielded network cabling system from infrastructure experts Siemon for a 19,000 sq ft development at their Navigation Park head quarters. LightAge Communications, a Siemon Certified Installer, has been appointed to deliver the new cabling infrastructure.
The installation will include category 7A TERA® 1000 MHz S/FTP cable and 1,500 category 6A shielded RJ45 MAX® modules delivering 10 Gigabit Ethernet from the telecoms room to all desk positions. LightAge worked with Venture Wales and the main contractor on this forward thinking approach which allows them to migrate to the full category 7A network in the future by upgrading to Siemon's TERA connector, a solution that can deliver up to four independent applications from one RJ45 footprint.
Commenting on the system selection, Philip Cooper, Managing Director at Venture Wales explained, "Our choice has been made following extensive industry research, plus vendor and product qualification. We want the best performance now and maximum flexibility for the future."
According to George Cherry, managing director of LightAge Communications, they took time and care to appreciate the entire long term scope of communications requirements for Venture Wales: "This level of understanding meant that we could be sure that Siemon's cabling was the best possible option for Venture Wales' investment. By installing TERA 1000 MHz cable now instead of 500MHz category 6A cable, the customer's network has the capacity for future growth through longer life and lower total cost of ownership which provides added value for their tenants by enabling support for future technologies" he said.
As one of the fastest growing companies in Wales, Venture Wales remains the first choice for all small and medium sized companies and entrepreneurs looking for advice and support on any aspect of their business. Available services range from quick advice on business matters, longer-term support for early stage companies, in-depth specialist consultancy and funding support. The decision to expand follows considerable business growth in 2007/2008 and forecasted growth over the next 10 years. The new £2.4m complex will deliver much-needed modern office space for new and existing knowledge based small and medium-sized enterprises and is due to be handed over to Venture Wales in November 2008.
The latest phase of development at Navigation Park will be at the cutting edge of environmentally friendly design and is set to achieve an "Excellent" rating under BREEAM (the most widely used environmental sustainability assessment method for new building developments). A host of conservation measures, including geothermal heating and rainwater harvesting, have been incorporated into the design and local labour and materials will be used whenever possible during the construction process.
"The choice of the cabling solution in this project also has a positive effect on the environment", says Graeme Stoker, marketing manager at Siemon. "The future-proof performance of the system offers significant material savings and its realistic extended lifecycle of up to 15 years decreases the frequency of upgrades and limits the need for cable removal and/or disposal. TERA's unique cable sharing capability can reduce material usage as up to four cabling channels are replaced by a single cable and outlet. Plus the higher performing fully-shielded construction has the potential to reduce active equipment power consumption."
