Siemon Announces New Industrial PCB Jack
Ideal Ethernet solution for hubs, switches, PCs and more in industrial environments
Watertown, CT — The Siemon Company, a world leader in structured cabling and connectivity, is pleased to announce the newest addition to its line of industrial products -- the Industrial RJ45-style PCB Jack.
The innovative industrial PCB jack features a patent-pending bayonet-style mating and outer housing that protects connections from dust, moisture, vibration, temperature extremes, and chemicals. With a quarter-turn of the coupling nut, the plug and outlet jack become fully engaged and sealed against liquids and other environmental contaminants.
The printed circuit board mounted outlet allows the jack to be used in a vast array of I/O devices and active equipment such as controllers, PCs, wireless nodes, switches, hubs, industrialized equipment, and more. Mounted on a PCB, the high-performance category 6/5e outlet provides equipment manufacturers with the RJ45-type connectivity needed to effectively run the ever-demanding applications now found in industrial environments.
Asked to comment on the expanding industrial line, Randy Below, The Siemon Companys VP of OEM Business explained, With the recent creation of the Industrial Max® Outlet, we were able to offer customers an ideal solution for bringing Ethernet connectivity into harsh environments such as factory floors, military missions, hospital wash down rooms, food processing plants, and chemical refineries. When we began getting requests to take the outlet one step further and create a version for the active equipment used in those same environments, we listened to the needs and demands of our customers, and created this new Industrial PCB Jack.
The Siemon industrial interface used in this jack has been standardized in the Ethernet Industrial Protocol (EtherNet/IP) physical layer specification as the recognized industrial sealed RJ45 interface. Ethernet/IP is an open industrial networking standard that emerged due to the high demand for using Ethernet networks for control applications. The Ethernet/IP special interest group is comprised of industry-leading automation companies that develop and maintain specifications for Physical Layer components for use in bringing Ethernet to the factory floor. In addition, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) have adopted the Siemon interface into their respective industrial cabling draft standards.
The Siemon Industrial PCB Jack is available in both unscreened twisted-pair (UTP) and screened twisted-pair (ScTP) versions. Both jacks are ideal for harsh commercial or factory floor environments. For installations where cabling will be in close proximity to sources of heavy electromagnetic interference (EMI), the ScTP version is recommended. When mated to The Siemon Companys Industrial MAX plug, the connection provides an IP67-rated seal, providing superior resistance to moisture, dust, and liquids. The outlet is also compatible with standard RJ-style modular cords, allowing backward compatibility with existing equipment or field testers.
