The Siemon Company OWL Center

Watertown, CT — One of the main philosophies that has made The Siemon Company the technology leader it is today, is the importance of continued training for all employees. Providing employees with advanced skill building has helped to keep The Siemon Company on the cutting edge of the telecommunication industry -- an industry that grows and changes exponentially with every passing year.

In this quest for continued employee education, The Siemon Company has donated a learning center facility and joined forces with several other area businesses and educational providers to establish the Ongoing Workplace Learning (OWL) Center. This training center was created as a way for local companies to combine their resources and jointly offer employees advanced training that they might not otherwise be able to provide individually. Partners in the venture include The Siemon Company, The Eyelematic Manufacturing Co, Inc., The Summit Corporation of America, Naugatuck Valley Community College, and the Connecticut Department of Labor. The Siemon Company played a major role in this venture by renovating a portion of their Princeton Center building, located within the Siemon Business Park in Watertown, CT, and donating use of the new facility for this ongoing educational program.

Classes at the OWL Center range from technical courses such as blueprint reading and manufacturing problem-solving to managerial courses such as communications and supervisory training. Classes are taught by instructors from the Naugatuck Valley Community College.

The Siemon Company is excited to be part of this educational venture. "It's strategically very important for The Siemon Company and the company's future to have a work force of employees whose skills are not static," said Siemon President Carl N. Siemon. "Continual training of all employees helps keep our organization on the leading edge."

It is the hope of the OWL Center members that this type of training center will be duplicated in other parts of Connecticut, so that the State may reap the economic benefits of a skilled labor force.
