Siemon's Valerie Maguire Receives Prestigious Harry J. Pfister Award
Watertown, CT - Valerie Maguire, Global Sales Engineer for Siemon, received the 2008 Harry J. Pfister Award for Excellence in the Telecommunications Industry at the recent BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, FL. Presented by the University of South Florida's department of engineering, the Pfister Award recognizes the lifetime achievement or major accomplishment of an individual who enhances scientific, technical, or educational aspects, or who promotes professionalism, within the telecommunications industry.
Commenting on the award, Robert Carlson, Siemon's VP of Global Marketing expressed his appreciation of Maguire's contributions to both the cabling industry and Siemon, "Val always makes us proud, but it is great to see her accomplishments recognized by the industry she works so hard to promote and improve. If you look at the criteria of the Pfister Award - promoting scientific, technical, educational improvements and industry professionalism - it looks as if it was designed specifically to describe Val."
Upon accepting the award, Valerie expressed special appreciation to Siemon for recognizing the importance of the Standards development process and encouraging active participation in BICSI and TIA.
Ms. Maguire's expertise is focused in the fields of balanced twisted-pair and fiber optic telecommunications cabling, connecting hardware, and cables. She participates in working groups responsible for the development and publication of telecommunications standards such as ANSI/TIA-568-B.2-10 (category 6A) and ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 (future revision of '568-B.2). She is the chair of the TIA TR-42.7 copper cabling sub-committee and TIA TR-42 appointed liaison to IEEE 802.3. She has authored over 45 technical articles and engineering papers and holds one U.S. Patent.
