Siemon introduces intelligent PDUs in the Middle East

Intelligent PDUs

Siemon, a global leader in network infrastructure, has introduced a new range of intelligent power distribution units (PDUs) in the Middle East. With the ability to distribute power to critical network equipment whilst providing real-time monitoring, the new intelligent PDUs support the reduction of power consumption and maximisation of uptime in the data centre.

Siemon intelligent PDUs are available with varying degrees of monitoring and control to meet specific needs and preferences. These include metered, monitored, smart, switched and fully managed PDUs, with capabilities ranging from simple device-level monitoring to full outlet-level monitoring, control and switching.

According to Siemon, the new PDUs are of a robust, data centre quality construction and offer greater reliability, with powerful built-in capabilities to support various sensors that monitor critical cabinet parameters such as temperature, airflow and humidity. They can be used as standalone units that are easily accessed through an intuitive web browser, or interface with third-party software through common open networking protocols. The easy-to-read LCD display on each networked PDU can be fully customised through the web browser for local cabinet-level viewing.

"With data centre energy and downtime costs at an all-time high, the ability of intelligent PDUs to monitor and control power is vital for optimising efficiency and identifying potential problems," says Alberto Zucchinali, data centre solutions and services manager at Siemon EMEA. "Data centre managers can easily view the status and track ongoing performance of PDUs and their devices in order to fully understand usage. With this essential information, they can identify high power or erratic power consumption, insufficient cooling areas and under-utilised equipment, allowing them to make informed decisions and take the proper steps to reduce power consumption and rapidly resolve problems in order to safeguard uptime."

Siemon's intelligent PDU can be horizontally mounted in a standard19-inch configuration, or vertically in zero-U applications. They are available with IEC or NEMA plug interfaces and for single or three-phase voltage. Various available cord lengths offer added flexibility. Reliability is maximised says Siemon, thanks to the comprehensive test data provided with each unit.
