Siemon and Future-Tech to host data centre design seminars - Kenya

October 2012 - IT Infrastructure specialist Siemon has announced two seminars to be held during November in Nairobi, to deliver expert learning on data centre design and efficiency. With keynote speakers from Siemon and Future-Tech, the seminars will discuss a broad range of critical subjects for data centres, from power and cooling to new technologies for 10Gb/s, 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s transmissions.

The seminars are being held due to a demand for quality information and guidance from international experts in the field, to support those responsible for data centre design and development in the East African region.

Explaining the drive for the seminars, Iyer Sivakumar, Siemon sales manager for Africa, said, "Creating a sound data centre design is one of the most critical steps to assure long term goals for sustainability, flexibility and power savings. We hope to share our knowledge and expertise, gained from working on data centre projects around the world, to support a better understanding of the essential subjects for all data centre professionals."

The seminars will be hosted in Kenya on 27 and 28 November 2012 at the Sankara Hotel, Nairobi. Each seminar runs from 9.30am to 2pm, with lunch and refreshments included. Attendance is free by registered application and places are strictly limited to 50 per day. Delegates are expected to include industry professionals from data centres, infrastructure, networking and IT, holding CIO, CTO, management and consultant titles.

Keynote speaker from Siemon, data centre solutions and services manager, Alberto Zucchinali RCDD comes from an engineering background and has 20 years experience in the structured cabling industry. In his sessions he will evaluate a range of physical layer solutions for the data centre and discuss the dramatic impact that network infrastructure choices can have on overall performance. Highlighting the architectures currently in use and the major arguments for and against their implementation, particular focus will be given to the impact of these architectures on areas such as modularity, flexibility, power and cooling.

James Wilman, sales and marketing manager at Future-Tech, brings data centre design and strategic development experience. He has worked on projects that incorporate high density and high efficiency computing solutions, with several projects achieving annualised PUEs of below 1.18 within Tier 2 and 3 environments. James has delivered Future-Tech's data centre energy efficiency and best practice workshops for the last three years and has helped secure the company's European and global design awards. Speaking on behalf of Future-Tech, a data centre design, build, maintenance and management specialist, James brings practical knowledge to the seminar. He explains, "We will discuss the various considerations for data centre design and build projects, incorporating topics such as design work flow, compressor free cooling, power distribution, airflow management and layouts. These best practice principles ensure facilities operate correctly and are fit for purpose. Together with Alberto, we plan to talk about both existing infrastructure technology and integration and consider the future of 10Gb/s, 40Gb/s and ultimately 100Gb/s transmission."
