Siemon lays the path towards smarter, greener buildings at BICSI Nigeria conference

September 2016 - Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, is pleased to announce that its recent presentation, "ConvergeIT: The Path to Smarter, Greener Buildings," delivered at the 2016 BICSI Middle East and Africa Nigeria Conference & Exhibition was a huge success.

Delivered by Olajide Olagbenro, Siemon's business account manager for West Africa, the presentation focused on the latest developments in today's intelligent buildings and highlighted how these are increasingly moving towards IP convergence with more and more IP-enabled devices converging onto one single platform thereby creating substantial CAPEX and OPEX savings.

The presentation fit very well with the BICSI event, which took place at the prestigious Muson Centre in Lagos and was themed, "New frontier: Nigerian ICT Infrastructure, Standards, Growth and Development" with a focus on the continuous need to grow and distribute Nigeria's ICT infrastructure across the country to meet the rising demand for ICT services. Designed to bring together attendees, exhibitors, visitors and guests from around the world seeking to enhance their knowledge of the information and communications technology (ICT) community, the BICSI Nigeria Conference & Exhibition targets a broad range of delegates including architects and consultants, cabling installers and technicians, facility managers, network and data centre designers.

In his presentation, Olagbenro shared specific insight on how to create efficient infrastructure to support smart buildings. He stressed that the exponential growth in IP would require highly flexible infrastructures and recommended the deployment of a zone cabling topology throughout the modern building infrastructure to best meet this need for flexibility. Underlining his recommendations, Olagbenro explained the wide range of benefits that a zone cabling topology brings to the modern building, including reduced wastage, reduced OpEx, reduced installation costs and the ability to support existing remote powering technology such as Power over Ethernet (PoE). This means that a single converged network can eliminate the need to provide external power outlets to a wide range of building system devices.

Olagbenro also introduced Siemon's ConvergeIT™ cabling solution for intelligent buildings, which supports converged, IP-based intelligent building systems via a single, simplified structured cabling infrastructure. ConvergeIT is designed to help architects, design-build firms, building owners and contractors to plan and deploy efficient IT cabling infrastructure in green intelligent buildings to support a variety of services such as voice/data, wireless, lighting, video surveillance, access control, audio/video, life safety systems, energy management, and HVAC, while effectively delivering reliable PoE to system devices.

ConvergeIT cabling solutions with industry leading copper and fibre optic cabling systems was also a key focus at the Siemon booth during the BICSI Exhibition. Amongst the products on display was Siemon's LightStack® ultra-high-density plug and play fibre system that supports up to 40/100 Gb/s applications, Z-MAX® category 6A and TERA® category 7A advanced shielded copper twisted-pair cabling systems and Siemon's comprehensive offering of high speed interconnect solutions. Also on display was Siemon's new PowerMax™ line of intelligent power distribution units (PDUs).

Commenting on the one-day forum, Olagbenro said, "Siemon's participation in the event was very successful.
